Accessibility
Last updated: 10 June 2026
Our commitment
Keep Safe exists to help people raise safeguarding concerns safely — which means our website and reporting tools need to work for everyone, including people using assistive technologies such as screen readers, voice control, or keyboard-only navigation. We're committed to meeting the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at AA level across our site and reporting forms.
What we've done so far
- Semantic HTML structure with proper heading hierarchy and landmarks
- Keyboard-navigable site navigation, mobile menu, and FAQ accordions
- Visible focus states and skip-friendly page structure
- Colour combinations checked for sufficient contrast against WCAG AA thresholds
- Descriptive link text and `alt` text for meaningful images
- Responsive layout that supports browser zoom and text resizing
What we're working towards
Accessibility is an ongoing process, not a one-off project. We're currently working on:
- A full audit of the safeguarding report-submission flow against WCAG 2.2 AA
- Improved screen reader announcements for dynamic content (e.g. live chat responses, form validation)
- Reduced-motion support for animations and the homepage scroll effects
- Ongoing testing with assistive technology users
